A skin swab (wound culture) is a test that detects and identifies pathogenic bacteria (responsible for infection) present in a wound. Any wound can be infected by a wide variety of bacteria. Culture testing can detect a possible infection, identify the type of bacterium responsible and guide treatment choices towards targeted therapies.
